Fox News Article

CNN Article

Fox News is a historically right-leaning media outlet. It is fairly credible despite its conservative bias. Although many people despise Fox, it is actually a decent source for information and provides neutral coverage when politics usually aren’t involved. In this case, political bus may effect the article.
CNN is a historically left-leaning media outlet. It is a credible news source as well even though there is a liberal bias. This media outlet covers a wide variety of topics and provides accurate and neutral information when it comes to relatively apolitical topics. However, this topic is not apolitical.

US Attorney General Jeff Sessions has asked high ranking federal officers to evaluate certain issues mentioned by the republican house. There was a deal that sold Canadian mines Uranium to Russia when Hillary’s Clinton was Secretary of State. It has been considered that Hillary may have been bribed by Russia to agree with the deal and allow it to take place. Trump has fired off some tweets about this criticizing the FBI for not already looking into this.

The Fox News article just stated the facts. Minimal facts in this case and had a very brief article pertaining to the subject. The article was however very informative despite this and informed the reader about the topic. This could have been improved by including more detail on this topic however because very little detail was given.

The CNN article states the facts and elaborated on all of it. In this article, it also stated how this could effect Hillary and the Dems, as well as the process for investigation. In this article, a lot of detail was given, but a liberal bias was included to protect Hillary and the Democratic Party in this instance. However, this article was very informative to the reader despite the liberal bias.

The CNN article was overall better, just because more facts were brought to the table and more detail was given. The Fox News article was very vague and to the point as it was only a few sentences long. However, the CNN article did have a liberal bias to protect Hillary and the Democratic Party. I appreciate Fox News’ neutral coverage in this instance as it is helpful to understand pure facts instead of looping politics into the situation. Despite this, the CNN article was superior because of its extensive detail and explanation.

In my opinion, this is just another one of those hoaxes designed to make someone look bad. A similar instance could be cited to the Trump-Russia situation where people are claiming that Russia hacked the election to make Republicans look bad. I think both of those situations were overblown and taken too far. I do not think anything happened with Hillary this time.

Fox News Article

Fox News is a historically right-leaning media outlet. It is fairly credible despite its conservative bias. Although many people despise Fox, it is actually a decent source for information and provides neutral coverage when politics usually aren’t involved. For example, coverage regarding a shooting would be accurate for anyone.
CNN is a historically left-leaning media outlet. It is a credible news source as well even though there is a liberal bias. This media outlet covers a wide variety of topics and provides accurate and neutral information when it comes to relatively apolitical topics, such as the one shown below.
Kelley, the man who shot all those people in that Texas church, was discharged from the US Air Force for domestic violence. People are still confused as to how this man was able to buy firearms with his recent legal trouble. The Air Force has said that it had not relayed information to law enforcement about the dangerous behaviors of this man. Had this been done correctly. The shooting may have been prevented at that Texas Church.
In my opinion, the Fox News article regarding this was more concise and organized. All of the facts were stated clearly, as well as being stated efficiently. The Fox News article pointed fingers at an error made by the Air Force, but viewed this as a mistake and a freak incident. This article truly showed how horrible things were in Texas.
The CNN article was still a great article as it was organized but not concise. CNN pointed fingers towards the Air Force, and viewed the Air Force solely responsible for this incident. Like the Fox News article, this article also showed how horrible things were as the events unfolded in Texas.
Overall, the Fox News article was better in that it was very well-worded, concise, and organized. I also think the Fox News article was more accurate in its article and chose to lay out the information rather than applying a bias as seen in the CNN article. There was a slight left-leaning bias in the CNN article which is why the Air Force was blamed. Despite this, the two articles were equally informative. However, the Fox News article did a better job at relating this information.
In my opinion, this is terrible. Good, innocent people were killed and lives were ruined because this man decided to do terrible things. I personally think it was just a mistake and a freak accident that this man was able to purchase firearms. I do think the Air Force should have used more caution when dealing with this individual than they did in this instance.

CE Blog 3- California Wildfires

CNN is a historically left-leaning media outlet. It is a credible news source as well even though there is a liberal bias. This media outlet covers a wide variety of topics and provides accurate and neutral information when it comes to apolitical topics, such as the one shown below.

NBC is also a historically left-leaning media outlet. It is a credible source as well even though there is a liberal bias. This media outlet covers a wide variety of topics on their television broadcast and provides accurate and neutral information when it comes to apolitical topics, such as the one shown below.

Currently, wildfires are raving parts of northern California. Thousands of people have been evacuated in preparation of the blaze similar to how people evacuate for hurricanes. The city of Santa Rosa, California has almost been entirely evacuated as the fires bear down on this California town. Making matters worse, the weather has been windy and dry sparking up new fires and spreading the fires that were already there. Luckily, some rain is in the forecast later this week.

In the CNN article, the facts were stated clearly and represented the danger that many Californians are currently facing. However, the CNN article stuck mostly to the danger that was posing a threat to Santa Rosa in particular, rather than the whole northern section of the state.

In the NBC article, the facts were also stated clearly and represented the danger that many Californians are currently facing. However, the NBC article stuck mostly to the general danger that is being posed to California, rather than danger being posed to specific locations.

The CNN article focused on Santa Rosa in particular, so it lacked coverage for other areas. The NBC article however, did a good job of representing all areas with general statements about Northern California. I think the NBC article did a better job at explaining the impacts these wildfires are currently having on the whole state than CNN. Overall, the NBC article did a better job at informing the public as specific details were included as well as general statements.

In my opinion, this is awful and we need to pull more government funding to take care of the matters at hand. I couldn’t imagine having to deal with wildfires in Georgia and we are blessed to be in an area where wildfires are uncommon. I definitely think the response efforts are not where they need to be as too many people have already died.

CE Blog 2 – NFL Protests

BBC is a very reliable news source. This media outlet covers all types of news worldwide and does do professionally. This is a media outlet with a television broadcast and a website to get information about what is happening around the world. BBC has little to no bias that would sway any information.

NY Times is a reliable news source. This media outlet covers all types of news as well and covers global news. This is a media outlet that is viewed in their newspaper or website but does not have a television broadcast. NY Times has a slight liberal bias in its article and is well-done, but less professional than BBC.

On Friday at a rally in Alabama, President Trump criticized athletes who didn’t stand during the national anthem. He spoke very strongly and directly against these actions in his speech. He later tweeted that the kneeling had nothing to do with race, but rather dealt with respect and pride for our country. As a result, the Tennessee Titans, Seattle Seahawks, and Pittsburgh Steelers were not on the field during the national anthem. The Patriots and Bears stood with there arms locked together as did the Packers and Bengals. On top of this, there were protests before the Eagles-Giants game. There have been many more instances of this since then, and has caused a lot of chaos and drama for the White House.

In the BBC article, the facts were stated with no opinions in place. BBC just summarized the situation and gave several examples of instances of protesting and tweets from Donald Trump. There was very little bias placed on this article against Donald Trump. Overall, this was a very well-written and expressed article.

In the NY Times article, the facts were stated with opinions in place. NY Times summarized the situation and also gave several examples and details regarding the events that took place. There was a moderate liberal bias placed on this article against Donald Trump. Overall, this was a well-written and informative article despite its liberal bias.

When comparing the BBC and NY Times articles covering the same subject, the BBC version was more professional and well-written. Both the BBC and NY Times article had a liberal bias, but the BBC’s bias was hardly detectable and the NY Times bias fairly significant in this article. The two articles were equally well-written and detailed with examples. BBC just stated the facts and NY Times served a small amount of opinionated detail to the facts. Overall, both articles did a very good job of informing the readers of the situation.

In my opinion, sitting or kneeling during the national anthem is disrespectful to the country. However, everyone has freedom of expression and should be allowed to do as they please. President Trump handled this very poorly and caused this to backfire on him and blow the situation out of proportion. Initially, just a select few individuals did this. As of now, tons of athletes are now participating in this form of peaceful protest.

Current Event 1

Fox News is a historically right-leaning media outlet. It is fairly credible despite its conservative bias. Although many people despise Fox, it is actually a decent source for information and provides neutral coverage when politics aren’t involved. For example, coverage regarding Hurricane Harvey would be accurate for anyone.

MSNBC is a historically left-leaning media outlet. It is a credible source as well even though there is a liberal bias. This media outlet covers a wide variety of topics on their television broadcast and provides accurate and neutral information when it comes to apolitical topics.

During Hurricane Harvey, many critics were quick to attack Houston’s mega-church pastor Joel Osteen. People started a rumor that spread like wildfire across most media outlets. These people claimed that the church was not going to allow their facility to be used as a shelter. However, this is not true and people twisted his words. In reality, they had to wait one day for the waters to recede because their church was also partially submerged. The day after the initial attack, the megachurch took in thousands of evacuees to safety inside their church building.

The Fox News article regarding Joel Osteen and the rumors was accurate and reflected the same message as other media outlets. This article did not place a bias on this broadcast and instead just stated what happened in chronological order. I perceived this as informative and apolitical with a neutral bias (for this particular broadcast).

The MSNBC article regarding Joel Osteen and the rumors was also accurate and reflected the same message as other media outlets. This article did not place a bias on this broadcast and just stated the facts. I perceived this article as informative and helpful to understand the situation.

Both the Fox News and MSNBC broadcast covering the Joel Osteen scandal were accurate and relatively neutral. These two articles despite being produced by different networks, were very similar in coverage and opinion. Both networks “apologized” to Joel Osteen for mistakenly slandering his name and the church’s. In my opinion, the Fox News coverage was more opinionated and took a more conservative approach by praising the (Christian) organization. In contrast, MSNBC stuck to the facts more and summarized the way that the events unfolded. In addition to Fox News’ more lengthy coverage, this site had several article regarding this topic whereas MSNBC had two or three articles.

In my opinion, Joel Osteen and the megachurch tried to cover up with excuses and only allowed the use of their church because people were outraged. However, regardless of the motives it was very generous to offer there facility during the chaos of the flooding. Overall, the media was to blame for the drama as it turned out that the church as offered as a shelter after all.
